Since day one of his administration, President Donald Trump began an outright attack on migrant workers by passing executive orders that put millions of migrant communities at risk. The daily quota for arrests of migrants has increased to 3,000 people per day. As of July 2025, ICE has reported over 56,000 migrants in detention, over 70% of whom have no criminal convictions. Trump’s actions against working class communities have also escalated, including cuts on vital services like Medicare and SNAP, attacks on first amendment rights, the deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles, massive removals of migrants to third-countries, and diverting more funding toward deportation and the creation of detention centers like “Alligator Alcatraz.”

People are coming out to publicly condemn these attacks and organize self-defense coalitions, know-your-rights trainings and political education, community health clinics, protest rallies, legislative advocacy, and more.

The Tanggol Migrante or Defend Migrant Workers Campaign launched in November of 2024 to defend our people from Trump's right-wing, anti-migrant rhetoric and policies. “Tanggol” in Filipino means “protect or defend.” BAYAN USA, Migrante USA, the International Migrants Alliance (IMA), the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON), Kabataan Alliance, and Gabriela USA joined together to protect and defend our community during this critical time.

A crucial part of the campaign has also been to hold the Philippine government accountable to protecting the interests of Philippine nationals. Through the Tanggol Migrante Campaign, community members have diligently followed up with the embassy and consulates, urging them to take immediate and concrete action to support our kababayan, especially those who are detained. Overseas workers rely on the consulates, which have dedicated departments and funding to provide relief. But resources such as the Assistance to Nationals fund are difficult to attain because of bureaucratic processes. Until now, the embassy’s and consulates’ actions have been insufficient.

What is Tanggol Migrante?

The Tanggol Migrante Movement is an alliance of organizations from across the U.S. dedicated to defending and protecting Filipinos facing attacks under the Trump administration and beyond. The alliance engages in collective action in various ways: joint education, resource sharing, legal and health services, fundraising, advocacy work, and building public pressure to push forward the demands of the most impacted.

Support the campaigns:

Points of Unity

  • We unite to support and defend the rights of migrants, workers, and all those affected by the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, and to empower the leadership of those most impacted in this movement.

  • We unite to hold governments accountable—including both U.S. and Philippine institutions—to fulfill their responsibilities in ensuring the rights and welfare of the people through organizing, advocacy, and other forms of action.

  • We unite to grow our movement by bringing in others to the alliance to defend our communities.

Members of the alliance have the opportunity to contribute to both national efforts and the local work in your cities.

Everyone has a role to play in this collective effort, and we welcome all who are eager to contribute in the ways they can.
